AI Enablement Intern

About the Job: The AI Enablement Intern will be a crucial part of Emerson’s Flow Controls engineering organization, focusing on integrating artificial intelligence into real-world engineering work practices. This role aims to significantly enhance productivity, quality, and speed across various engineering activities including product development and sustaining engineering, spanning firmware, mechanical, and electrical disciplines.

In This Role, Your Responsibilities Will Be:

  • Identify and analyze engineering workflows that are suitable candidates for AI-assisted improvements.
  • Develop AI-based prototypes designed to automate tasks related to source code generation, documentation, reporting, and data analysis.
  • Apply large language models (LLMs) to various engineering artifacts such as technical specifications, test results, and defect data to extract insights and automate processes.
  • Collaborate closely with firmware, mechanical, and electrical engineers to gain a deep understanding of current workflow challenges and pain points.
  • Develop agents, scripts, or other lightweight tools to directly improve engineering productivity and efficiency.
  • Identify and champion opportunities for implementing larger-scale AI productivity solutions across the organization.
  • Document the results of AI interventions and quantify the achieved productivity improvements through measurable metrics.
  • Present findings, demonstrations, and progress updates to engineering leadership and relevant stakeholders.

For This Role, You Will Need:

  • Currently pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, or a closely related technical field.
  • Demonstrated programming experience in languages such as Python, C#, JavaScript, or other similar programming languages.
  • Practical experience working with AI models, automation principles, or data-driven systems.
  • The ability to clearly and effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse engineering audiences.

Preferred Qualifications That Set You Apart:

  • Prior internship experience or significant project experience where AI was applied to solve real-world problems.
  • Experience in integrating AI solutions into existing workflows or legacy systems.
  • Familiarity with version control systems like Git, working with APIs, and understanding backend or cloud-based systems.
  • A genuine interest in industrial automation, embedded systems, or engineered products.
