Internship – Software Engineering – Fall 2026 | Firefly Aerospace
The Tone:
This is an internship at Firefly Aerospace, located in Leander, TX. Firefly Aerospace is a space and defense technology company focused on enabling world-class capabilities for launch, landing, and operation in space. The company develops launch vehicles, lunar landers, and orbital vehicles to provide full mission services from low Earth orbit to the Moon and beyond for government and commercial customers. This role is crucial in supporting the engineering teams that advance Firefly’s critical space missions and contribute to its successful trajectory into space, building on achievements such as launching a satellite to orbit with 24-hour notice and achieving a successful Moon landing.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support: Support Flight Software, Ground Software, or Guidance, Navigation, and Control engineers on launch vehicle or spacecraft programs.
• Adhere: Adhere to Aerospace Software Engineering processes, procedures, and best practices.
• Perform: Perform assigned work onsite and on time.
• Communicate: Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing to project stakeholders.
• Collaborate: Collaborate closely with team members within the work environment.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Enrollment or a recent graduate in a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree program focusing on Aerospace Engineering, Computer Sciences, Software Engineering, or a related field.
• Experience: Knowledge in a specific software engineering or aerospace engineering area such as orbital mechanics, trajectory analysis, control theory, filtering, machine learning, artificial intelligence, database technologies, networking, or embedded software; demonstrated experience with software development in C++, Python, or LabVIEW.
• Skills: Proficiency in software development using C++, Python, or LabVIEW; effective verbal and written communication; ability to prioritize and execute assigned tasks efficiently and on time; strong collaboration skills for working closely with others.
• Bonus: Experience with source code Version Control tools; participation in a related extracurricular university club or laboratory.
