Eligibility Requirements:
All applicants MUST CURRENTLY BE FULL-TIME RESIDENTS OF MAINE or ATTEND A COLLEGE OR UNIVERSITY IN MAINE.
Location:
This is a hybrid position requiring a combination of remote work and in-person days each week. Interns must have the ability to commute to the Greater Portland area throughout the internship, particularly for in-person professional development sessions.

Spurwink is a non-profit organization that responds to community needs by providing behavioral health care, substance use disorder services, and support services for people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds, as well as their families.

Internship Details:
• Start Date: June 1, 2026
• End Date: August 6, 2026
• Duration: 10 weeks
• Hours: 32 hours per week (Monday – Thursday)
• Format: Hybrid (remote work + in-person days)
• In-Person Component: Weekly Professional Development Cohort held on Thursdays at Spurwink’s administrative offices in the Greater Portland area.

About the Advancement Department:
The Advancement Department is central to Spurwink’s growth and community engagement, encompassing fundraising, business development, and communications functions. Their key responsibilities include:
• Increasing financial support from individuals, corporations, and foundations.
• Identifying opportunities for agency growth.
• Managing the agency’s social media presence (content creation, metric tracking).
• Overseeing all internal and external communications.
• Coordinating logistics for fundraising events.
• Writing and submitting grant applications and Requests for Proposals (RFPs) to various funders.

Intern Responsibilities & Learning Opportunities:
As an intern with the Advancement team, you will gain hands-on experience by assisting with a diverse range of departmental tasks. This internship is designed to foster professional growth and includes:
• Opportunity to assist the Advancement team with various tasks related to fundraising, business development, and communications.
• Participation in a weekly intern cohort meeting to build camaraderie, share experiences, and learn from knowledgeable Spurwink employees.
• Creation of a capstone project detailing educational goals, skills learned, and overall internship experiences.
• Attendance at a weekly meeting with your supervisor.

Requirements:
• Strong interest in working for a non-profit organization.
• Ability to commute to the Greater Portland area throughout the internship.
• Interest in the fields of communications and non-profit development.
• Experience with Microsoft 365.
• Commitment to creating a capstone project.
• Ability to attend a weekly meeting with a supervisor.
