What We Look For In an ACT Math Tutor

• Advanced Math Content Mastery:
  • Deep knowledge across all ACT Math topics including pre-algebra (fractions, decimals, percentages), elementary algebra, intermediate algebra, coordinate geometry, plane geometry, and trigonometry (SOH-CAH-TOA, unit circle, identities).
  • Ability to explain 60 questions across all topics within a 60-minute time limit.
  • Proficiency in calculator strategies and formula recall for efficient problem-solving.
• Strategic Problem-Solving & Speed:
  • Skilled at teaching rapid solution identification, backsolving techniques, and strategic skipping of difficult questions.
  • Guidance for students through multi-step word problems, geometry proofs, graphing functions, and trigonometric applications.
  • Emphasis on calculator efficiency, estimation skills, and recognizing high-frequency question types to maximize speed and accuracy.
• Test Strategy & Adaptive Instruction:
  • Familiarity with the ACT Math progression (easier early questions, harder later questions) and common pitfalls like misreading problems and calculation errors.
  • Ability to adapt instruction through timed drills, formula sheet creation, and targeted practice on weak areas (e.g., geometry, trigonometry).
  • Minimum ACT Math score of 31 is required, along with proven methods for score improvement.
• Effective Teaching Methods:
  • Ability to identify concepts students commonly struggle with and explain material using multiple approaches.
  • Adapt instruction to meet individual learning needs and styles.
  • Strong communication skills and a friendly, engaging teaching style.
  • Ability to adapt to different learning styles and student needs.
