Finance Intern | New York State Department of Labor

The Tone:
This is an hourly finance internship at the New York State Department of Labor, located in Albany, NY. The New York State Department of Labor is a statewide organization that helps New Yorkers find careers, supports businesses, and protects workers. This role provides insight into a NYS Accounting office and the Statewide Financial System, contributing to the financial operations that support the department’s mission.

• Mission: Process financial transactions, manage data, and prepare financial documentation to support the department’s accounting functions.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Analyze: Run reports and queries, then analyze and summarize financial data.
• Reconcile: Prepare various miscellaneous financial reconciliations.
• Process: Prepare Federal payment justifications and journal entries, and review deposits.
• Enter: Input vouchers into the designated accounting information system.
• Manage: File and purge records in compliance with retention regulations.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Must be 18 years of age or older, and actively enrolled in a New York State college, university, or graduate program, or be a resident of New York State attending college outside of New York State.
• Experience: Completed a minimum of one year as a student at a degree-granting two or four-year college or university, or be a currently enrolled graduate student. Must maintain a minimum grade point average (GPA) of 2.0.
• Skills: Strong Excel skills, strong overall computer skills, and the ability to understand policies and procedures.
• Bonus: An accounting background with 24 completed credit hours in accounting, or working towards completion. Degree concentrations in Financial Studies or Business Administration are preferred, with preferred education levels of Junior or Graduate Student.
