Accounting Intern | OPCO Skilled Management

The Tone:
This is a paid, remote internship role at OPCO Skilled Management, specifically for candidates located in Texas, Indiana, Missouri, or New Mexico. OPCO Skilled Management is a company focused on providing comprehensive management services. This role is crucial for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring compliance, and supporting the financial reporting processes that underpin effective management decisions. The intern will gain hands-on experience in core accounting functions and contribute directly to the financial operations of the organization.

• Team: Reports to the Accounting Manager
• Mission: This individual will support the core accounting functions, ensuring accurate financial data and contributing to the timely generation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders.
• Tech Stack: MS Word, Excel, Accounting database computer system

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation of monthly and quarterly financial statements.
• Audit Schedule Management: Develop audit schedules and ensure monthly updates to financial information.
• Account Reconciliation: Reconcile various bank accounts, including operations, sweep, payroll, and investment, along with other related asset general ledger accounts.
• Journal Entry Preparation: Prepare journal entries for the general ledger and various subsidiary ledgers by compiling, researching, and analyzing necessary data.
• Balance Maintenance: Maintain accurate account balances and reconcile any differences found between various accounts and external comparison sources.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Candidates are preferred to be pursuing or have completed a BA/BS degree in Finance or Accounting, indicating foundational knowledge in financial principles.
• Experience: Proficiency is required in standard business software including MS Word and Excel, alongside practical experience with an Accounting database computer system.
• Skills:
• Organizational Acumen: Exhibit strong organizational skills and a meticulous attention to detail, especially when handling confidential financial information.
• Communication and Interpersonal Abilities: Possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to interface effectively across all levels of management.
• Operational Efficiency: Demonstrate the ability to effectively multi-task, problem-solve, meet deadlines, and consistently follow through on work assignments.
• Bonus: The ability to work additional hours and on special projects as needed is beneficial.
