Accounting Intern | Niles Enterprises

The Tone:
This is an internship at Niles Enterprises, located in Fenton, MI, offering hands-on experience within a growing industrial services organization. The Accounting Intern plays a key role in supporting daily accounting activities and special projects, contributing to the financial health of the company. This position is vital for developing a foundational understanding of general ledger accounting, financial processes, month-end close procedures, and internal controls, building practical business experience for a future career in accounting.

The TL;DR
• Role: Internship / Volunteer
• Location: In-person Fenton, MI
• Team: Supports the Accounting team, working closely with team members.
• Mission: To support day-to-day accounting activities, reporting, reconciliations, and special projects while gaining practical experience and contributing to financial understanding.
• Tech Stack: Vista, Spreadsheet Server, Excel, Microsoft Office applications

What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger: Support general ledger accuracy through account reconciliations and detailed review processes.
• Transactional Support: Process accounts payable, manage cash entries, and assist with banking activities including Positive Pay.
• Financial Closing: Participate in month-end close activities and contribute to various financial reporting tasks.
• Asset & Project Tracking: Assist with fixed asset tracking, reconciliations, work-in-progress (WIP) reviews, and job audits.
• Data Analysis & Projects: Gather, organize, and analyze accounting data using Vista, Spreadsheet Server, and Excel, and complete special projects with a concluding presentation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related business field, with a basic understanding of accounting principles and financial statements.
• Experience: Entry-level position; no specific prior experience is required, but foundational knowledge is essential.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, organizational skills, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills, along with proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications. Ability to manage multiple priorities and work effectively both independently and collaboratively.
• Bonus: Previous accounting, bookkeeping, or office experience; experience with ERP or other accounting software is preferred.
