Accounting & Finance Intern | U.S. Lubricants

This is a part-time internship at U.S. Lubricants, a key division of U.S. Venture, located in Appleton, WI. U.S. Venture is a well-established company providing essential energy and transportation products and services, with its U.S. Lubricants division specifically focused on delivering high-quality lubricant solutions to its customers. This role is crucial for supporting the division’s day-to-day accounting and finance activities, allowing the successful execution of operational tasks. Furthermore, the intern will be involved in important team projects, contributing to process improvements that enhance overall efficiency.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Internal Controls: Lead and complete specific areas of internal control walkthroughs, conduct self-testing, and provide recommendations for improvements, ensuring thorough documentation of findings.
• Risk & Process Mapping: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and execute robust risk mitigation plans, which includes developing and applying process flow mapping as applicable.
• Process Optimization: Conduct comprehensive analysis of business processes to identify inefficiencies and areas for improvement, then develop and implement strategies for process optimization using Lean principles. This also includes evaluating and measuring the effectiveness of process changes and automation efforts, adjusting as necessary.
• Financial Operations: Assist with essential month-end and year-end close activities such as detailed analysis, preparing journal entries, and conducting reconciliations. Provide support to the finance team in developing operational analyses and contributing to various analysis-focused projects.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This is an Entry-Level internship position. Candidates must be a current student actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree in either Accounting or Finance to qualify for this role.
• Experience: No specific prior professional years of experience are strictly required for this internship. However, preference will be given to candidates who have achieved Junior or Senior academic status.
• Skills: Demonstrated systems proficiency, particularly with tools like Excel, Word, and PowerBI, is essential. Candidates must also possess a strong ability to problem-solve effectively and exhibit genuine curiosity, alongside clear and effective communication skills.
• Bonus: Junior or Senior academic status is preferred, indicating a strong foundational understanding within the field.
