Accounting Coordinator | James Hardie

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at James Hardie, the industry leader in exterior home and outdoor living solutions, with U.S. operating entities headquartered in Chicago. The company builds a portfolio of trusted brands including fiber cement, fiber gypsum, composite, and PVC decking and railing products. This role is vital for supporting finance and operations by managing assigned accounting activities, ensuring timely communication, and escalating discrepancies. The Accounting Coordinator helps maintain accurate financial records, supports critical month-end close processes, and acts as a key point of contact for production confirmation at an operating site.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Production Data Management: Enter and reconcile production data for sheet machine and finishing, review and coordinate quality control product releases or blocks, and escalate discrepancies.
• Raw Material & Procurement Support: Accurately receive raw materials and goods purchased in SAP, reconcile key raw materials, and assist with researching invoicing, purchase orders, and aged receipts for the buyer process.
• Financial Operations Support: Review and assist with accounts payable tasks, including managing aged Goods Received/Invoice Received (GR/IR), and provide support for accounts payable accrual-related journal entry review and preparation.
• Month-End Close & Compliance: Support day 0 production closure, complete and document production and accounts payable-related SOX controls, and assist with overall month-end close activities.
• Operational Collaboration: Act as the site ‘production confirmation key point of contact, partnering closely with operational stakeholders, and serve as a backup for storeroom receiving as needed.

The Must-Haves
• Background: High school diploma or GED required; Accounting coursework or exposure preferred.
• Experience: Experience with an ERP system is required, with SAP exposure being a plus; Manufacturing environment experience preferred.
• Skills: Detail-oriented with a concern for accuracy, solid organizational skills, excellent customer service skills, and a solid grasp of Excel.
• Bonus: Bachelor’s Degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; a curious mindset that takes initiative and asks questions.
