Accounting Associate | Dornin Investment Group

The Tone:
This is a Full-Time or Part-Time role at Dornin Investment Group, located in Orange County, California. Dornin Investment Group (DIG) manages a diverse real estate portfolio and related companies, overseeing their day-to-day accounting and financial operations. This position offers an exceptional opportunity for accounting students, recent graduates, or early-career professionals to gain meaningful, hands-on experience beyond traditional data entry or basic bookkeeping, contributing directly to the financial health and accuracy of the portfolio while developing into a well-rounded accounting professional.

• Mission: Support the day-to-day accounting and financial operations of the real estate portfolio, ensuring accuracy and completeness of financial records.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Process Vendor Invoices and Payments: Receive, review, organize, and accurately process vendor invoices into Yardi Pay Scan, confirming correct coding for property, entity, account, and project. You will maintain supporting documentation, track invoice approvals, follow up on outstanding items, and assist with weekly check runs, including construction-related invoices and lien releases.
• Manage Accounts Receivable and Tenant Ledgers: Track and monitor amounts owed to properties and management entities, manage tenant ledgers, and actively follow up on past-due amounts. This includes recording charges and payments, applying them to appropriate accounts, and assisting with monthly AR reporting and reconciliations to the general ledger.
• Reconcile Bank and Credit Card Accounts: Perform comprehensive monthly bank and corporate credit card reconciliations, matching transactions to receipts and supporting documentation. You will maintain monthly reconciliation workbooks, research and resolve any discrepancies, and confirm all transactions are properly recorded in Yardi.
• Support Financial Close and Reporting: Assist the accounting team with various aspects of the monthly financial close, including general ledger review, account reconciliations, journal entries, and managing prepaid and intercompany transactions. You will contribute to ensuring each property’s accounting records are complete and accurate before monthly financial statements are finalized and assist in their preparation.
• Coordinate Cash and Construction Draws: Contribute to cash management activities by reviewing bank balances and preparing wire transfer requests with supporting documentation for management approval. You will also assist with construction project accounting by organizing invoices, tracking expenditures, compiling lender draw packages, and maintaining supporting documentation for reconciliation.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Currently pursuing or recently completed coursework in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or a closely related field, demonstrating a strong understanding of fundamental accounting principles.
• Experience: Previous experience in accounts payable, accounts receivable, bookkeeping, general accounting, banking, or administrative finance is highly preferred. This role is ideal for a candidate with 1-2 years of relevant experience looking to advance into property accounting.
• Skills: Strong proficiency in Excel, exceptional attention to detail, robust organizational and follow-through capabilities, and the ability to effectively manage multiple entities, properties, accounts, and deadlines. You must also possess strong written and verbal communication skills and be comfortable researching discrepancies.
• Bonus: An Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance (or actively working toward one), prior experience utilizing Yardi accounting software, direct real estate accounting experience, and a foundational understanding of financial statements, including bank and credit card reconciliations.
