Accounting Assistant | CRi – Community Residences, Inc.

The Tone:
This is a full-time hybrid role at CRi, located in Chantilly, VA. CRi is a non-profit organization focused on providing community residences and related services. This position is vital for accurately measuring and reporting the financial and economic activity of CRi and its financially interrelated companies. The Accounting Assistant ensures the integrity of the general ledger, supports financial statement preparation, and aids in maintaining the organization’s financial stability and compliance. This role directly contributes to the transparent and accurate financial operations that support CRi’s mission.

• Team: Reports directly to the Senior Accountant with project direction from the Controller.
• Mission: To support the integrity of the general ledger, facilitate accurate financial reporting, and assist with financial operations for CRi and its related entities.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Office suite, Excel, Sage Intacct or similar general ledger application

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting: Assist in the preparation and dissemination of monthly financial statements, including statements of financial position, activities, cash flow, and budget variance reports.
• Account Reconciliation: Reconcile general ledger accounts to subsidiary ledgers, complete reconciliations for at least 40 bank accounts and investment accounts, and investigate rejected deposits.
• Cash Flow Management: Prepare weekly cash flow projections to anticipate liquidity needs, inform investment decisions, and ensure the agency’s financial stability.
• General Ledger & Balance Sheet Support: Maintain supporting schedules for all balance sheet accounts, prepare required journal entries, and perform intercompany analysis and reconciliations.
• Audit and Compliance Support: Assist with annual audit requests, prepare audit schedules, explain supporting materials and procedures, and ensure timely filing of US Bureau Census and personal property tax reports.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Associate’s degree in Accounting or Business.
• Experience: 0-2 years of relevant accounting experience, along with a valid driver’s license and a satisfactory driving record.
• Skills: Strong numeracy, analytical, and organizational abilities; good verbal and written communication skills; and a basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
• Bonus: Experience using Sage Intacct or a similar general ledger application, and a high level of proficiency in Excel.
