Intern – Accounting & Finance | CRH

The Tone:
This is an internship at The Shelly Company, a CRH company, located in Findlay, OH. The Shelly Company is a vertically integrated supplier of aggregates, asphalt, ready mix concrete, and paving services across Ohio. This role is vital for providing support to the Accounting and Finance department, allowing the intern to gain practical experience across multiple aspects of the business. The intern will contribute to essential financial processes and compliance efforts within a large, decentralized organization.

• Mission: To assist company staff with various accounting and finance tasks, including data entry, month-end closings, reconciliations, and Sarbanes-Oxley compliance.
• Tech Stack: Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint

What You’ll Actually Do
• Collaborate with company staff to identify and resolve common operational issues.
• Provide essential clerical support to the accounting team.
• Execute accurate data entry for various financial records.
• Assist with critical month-end closing procedures and account reconciliations.
• Gain experience and contribute to Sarbanes-Oxley compliance efforts.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Working towards an Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a college or technical school; this is an Entry-Level role.
• Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Outlook, Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
• Skills: Strong mathematical ability (arithmetic operations, rate/ratio/percent calculations, graph interpretation); clear communication skills (reading, writing, speaking effectively); problem-solving and reasoning ability; commitment to safety and company policies; a professional and courteous attitude; a strong desire to learn.
