The Tone:
This is a hybrid role at Health Care Service Corporation, requiring 3 days in the office and 2 days remote. This Accountant I role is crucial for maintaining the integrity of financial records, ensuring accurate reporting, and supporting the financial health of the company through diligent reconciliation and control monitoring. The person in this position will contribute directly to the reliable financial operations that underpin the company’s success.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Monitor: Monitor, research, and balance financial data to support the comprehensive preparation of financial reporting and statements.
• Prepare: Collect and prepare lower-level journal entries and account reconciliations with precision.
• Process: Review, approve, and route diverse miscellaneous transaction requests, including claim refunds, claim adjustments, returned checks, stop payments, recoupment cash, advance checks, and premiums.
• Support: Assist with audits by gathering and explaining requested examples, procedures, and supporting information for quarterly MAR control testing.
• Troubleshoot: Evaluate financial data for reasonableness, research questions, and troubleshoot lower-level errors that may involve several systems, while performing departmental systems lower-level testing activities and implementation to ensure appropriate financial controls.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, or Management, or 4 years of direct accounting experience; foundational knowledge of basic accounting principles.
• Experience: Prior experience working with financial systems.
• Skills: Proficiency in MS Office and Access; ability to perform statistical data analysis; strong grammar and clear, concise communication with appropriate word choice.
• Bonus: Customer service experience; at least 1 year of account reconciliation experience.
