The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Expedia Group, located in Springfield, Missouri. Expedia Group is a global travel company that helps millions of people explore the world by connecting travelers, partners, and advertisers through its consumer brands, B2B network, and travel advertising business. As an Accountant on the Vrbo revenue team, you will do meaningful work by supporting core revenue accounting processes for a global online vacation rental business, contributing to more ease, confidence, and joy in travel for customers worldwide.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Manage Close: Support monthly and quarterly revenue accounting close activities, including preparing journal entries, executing close procedures, and completing account reconciliations.
• Analyze Financial Data: Prepare, maintain, and analyze reconciliations for restricted cash, revenue, deferred revenue, accounts receivable, and related accounts.
• Ensure Compliance: Assist with applying and documenting revenue recognition policies in adherence to U.S. GAAP and other applicable accounting standards.
• Investigate Variances: Review transactional data, investigate financial variances and unusual activity, and resolve any reconciliation differences promptly.
• Strengthen Controls: Help maintain effective SOX controls, ensure thorough accounting documentation, provide audit-ready support, and assist with quarterly and year-end audits.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience. Possess foundational knowledge of accounting principles, including account reconciliations, journal entries, and financial close activities.
• Experience: Up to three years of accounting experience, which may include internships, public accounting, corporate accounting, or relevant financial reporting roles. Demonstrated experience reviewing transactional data, investigating variances, or analyzing financial information.
• Skills: Proficient Excel skills, clear communication skills, and a collaborative approach to working with teammates and cross-functional partners. Exhibit careful attention to detail, organization, confidentiality, and follow-through in all tasks.
• Bonus: Interest in developing expertise in revenue recognition and experience with U.S. GAAP. Familiarity with SQL, Power Query, Tableau, financial systems, or similar reporting and data tools. Experience supporting SOX controls, audits, process documentation, or process improvement initiatives.
