Accountant 9-11 | State of Michigan

The Tone:
This is an in-person, full-time role at the State of Michigan, specifically within the Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs (LARA). LARA ensures that individuals and businesses adhere to state laws and regulations. This position is critical for upholding strict security standards for credit card data, protecting licensees from fraud and compromise, and managing essential financial operations across various applications.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Verify PCI Compliance: Verify PCI-Payment Card Industry Compliance requirements for all 24 LARA applications to safeguard licensee credit card data.
• New Application Development: Coordinate efforts with Treasury to establish new applications, recommending options and developing accounting profiles.
• Financial Management: Determine associated costs and processing fees for new applications, and monitor file transfer testing.
• Security Access Management: Approve online payment software access and monitor individual security access on an annual basis.
• Billing and Revenue: Prepare and mail invoices for the Publix Utility Assessment, monitor incoming revenue, and bill other state departments for incurred expenditures based on memorandums of understanding.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Possession of a bachelor’s degree with at least 24 semester (36 term) credits in accounting. This role covers a career ladder from entry-level to professional.
• Experience: Ranges from no specific experience required for Accountant 9, up to two years of professional experience for Accountant P11 in performing or auditing the systematic classification and evaluation of accounting data and the preparation of related financial and managerial reports.
• Skills: PCI-Payment Card Industry Compliance verification, accounting data classification and evaluation, financial report preparation, invoicing and revenue monitoring, security access management, familiarity with Sigma related functions.
• Bonus: Possession of a Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification may be substituted for six months of Accountant P11 experience, or a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification may be substituted for one year of Accountant experience.
