The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Forty Acres Energy, located in Houston, Texas. Forty Acres Energy is an exploration and production company focused on acquiring and developing conventional oil reserves, including the implementation of enhanced-recovery techniques. This detail-oriented accountant role is crucial for managing joint interest billing and contributing to the overall accounting function, with significant opportunities to expand into revenue accounting as skills develop.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Oversee monthly joint interest billing (JIB), ensuring accurate allocation of operating and capital expenses to working interest partners.
• Maintain precise working interest ownership records and billing decks to support accurate cost allocations.
• Reconcile billing and general ledger accounts, research discrepancies, and support comprehensive partner balance reviews.
• Review expenses for correct classification across wells, accounts, and billable/non-billable categories.
• Assist with month-end close, accruals, account reconciliations, and contribute to revenue accounting activities as experience grows.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field, suitable for an early career accountant.
• Experience: No prior experience specifically required, but experience in oil and gas accounting or joint interest billing is a plus.
• Skills: Strong attention to detail, analytical thinking, problem-solving skills, and proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to manage deadlines and work collaboratively.
• Bonus: Experience with Wolfepak or similar oil and gas accounting software is preferred.
