Accountant II | Type One Energy
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Type One Energy, located in Knoxville, TN. This role is crucial in supporting core accounting operations, executing month-end close procedures, preparing financial reports, and ensuring audit readiness as the company scales toward public-company readiness. The Accountant II will directly contribute to maintaining accurate, complete, and U.S. GAAP-compliant accounting records essential for reliable financial reporting and decision-making during a period of significant growth.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Support Core Accounting Operations: Prepare and post recurring and non-recurring journal entries, perform monthly account reconciliations, and assist with accounting for accruals, prepaids, fixed assets, leases, and payroll.
• Maintain Financial Records and Reporting: Support monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes, maintaining accounting records in accordance with U.S. GAAP and company policies, and assisting with balance sheet reviews and variance analysis.
• Facilitate Audit and SOX Readiness: Prepare schedules and supporting documentation for internal and external reporting, assist with external audit requests, and participate in SOX documentation, control execution, and testing activities.
• Drive Process Improvements: Partner with FP&A, Payroll, Procurement, and Operations teams to improve financial processes, support implementation of automation initiatives, and develop and maintain accounting process documentation.
• Strengthen Internal Controls: Help ensure accounting processes are consistent with internal control requirements, strengthening financial controls, and improving scalability as the company grows.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance with a strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
• Experience: 2-3 years of progressive accounting experience, including supporting month-end close, general ledger activities, account reconciliations, accrual accounting, financial statement preparation, and external audits.
• Skills: Proficiency with NetSuite and financial reporting tools, advanced Excel skills (pivot tables, lookups, data analysis), strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities, high attention to detail, and excellent communication and organizational skills.
• Bonus: CPA preferred, public accounting experience, or experience in a high-growth, private equity-backed, or pre-IPO environment.
