Fixed Asset Accountant I | UGI Utilities, Inc.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Monthly Close: Manage financial close procedures for plant balances, including preparing journal entries, completing account reconciliations, documenting SOX controls, and performing balance sheet variance analysis.
• Capital Project Evaluation: Monitor outstanding Construction Work in Progress (CWIP) balances, correspond with project managers on long-standing balances or unusual adjustments, and ensure appropriate tracking and timely capitalization of short-term jobbing and preliminary project costs.
• Order Release Management: Release orders within SAP for new projects and reauthorizations, reviewing for appropriate approval per DOA policy, correct AFUDC flag, capitalizable nature, and setup of cost allocation estimates.
• Asset Record Maintenance: Record final assets and retirements in the company’s plant records based on completion notices from project managers and information from the GIS department, following up on notices not received in a timely manner.
• Process Improvement: Perform testing of system developments related to areas of responsibility and assist in identifying opportunities to reduce risk and manual processes within the fixed asset accounting function.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or a related field preferred. Knowledge of GAAP, including technical accounting principles.
• Experience: 1+ years’ experience preferred, with familiarity in ERP accounting systems, fixed asset systems, and Excel.
• Skills: Strong computer proficiency, the ability to independently research and resolve issues, strong written and oral communication skills, keen attention to detail, and a high degree of organizational skills.
• Bonus: Familiarity with regulatory accounting practices as well as FERC accounting.
