• Mission: To support core financial accounting and reporting activities, ensuring accuracy, identifying variances, and contributing to the financial health and regulatory compliance of the utility.

What You’ll Actually Do
• General Ledger & Reconciliation: Prepare journal entries, reconcile, and accurately maintain general ledger accounts, including researching variances to understand financial differences.
• Month-End Close Contribution: Support the successful completion of monthly accounting activities, ensuring financial information completeness, resolving discrepancies, and collaborating to meet reporting deadlines.
• Utility & Regulatory Reporting: Prepare reports for regulatory agencies like FERC and FPSC, and assist with data requests for audits and utility rate cases, learning specialized utility accounting expertise.
• Budgeting & Financial Analysis: Contribute to the development of financial budgets and forecasts, analyze accounts for variances, and assist with ad hoc financial reporting and special projects.
• Cross-functional Collaboration: Gain exposure and collaborate with various internal business areas such as Finance, Regulatory Accounting, Internal Audit, and operating divisions, as well as external auditors and regulatory organizations.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Entry-Level. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting from a regionally accredited college or university, or a Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a financially related field in lieu of a bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
• Experience: No previous financial work experience is required.
• Skills: Working knowledge of U.S. GAAP, proficiency in Microsoft Excel, strong analytical skills, self-motivated and detail-oriented, and organized.
• Bonus: One or more years of financial work experience, especially with regulated utility accounting; knowledge of software/systems such as SAP, Power Plant, and Allegro.
