Accountant I | Missouri Enterprise

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at Missouri Enterprise. This position supports the critical day-to-day accounting operations of the organization. The Accountant I is essential for maintaining accurate financial records, ensuring timely processing of transactions, and assisting with key month-end and year-end procedures. What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounts Payable Management: Responsibly process vendor invoices with accuracy and timeliness, matching purchase orders, receipts, and invoices. This includes preparing weekly payment runs using various methods like check, ACH, or electronic payment, maintaining comprehensive vendor files and W-9 documentation, and reconciling vendor statements while professionally resolving any discrepancies.
• Accounts Receivable Processing: Manage customer invoicing by preparing and distributing accurate invoices, diligently recording all customer payments and deposits, and actively monitoring outstanding receivables while assisting with collection efforts. This also involves maintaining accurate and up-to-date customer account records.
• General Ledger & Financial Reconciliation: Record daily financial transactions and maintain the general ledger through precise journal entries. You will also reconcile bank accounts, credit cards, and other balance sheet accounts to ensure accuracy and assist with essential monthly closing procedures.
• Payroll Support & Reporting: Provide critical support for payroll processing and recordkeeping, including maintaining employee payroll documentation and ensuring all payroll transactions are accurately recorded. Additionally, you will prepare recurring financial reports for management, offering insight into the organization’s financial health.
• Organized Record Keeping: Ensure all accounting records and supporting documentation are consistently organized and readily accessible, upholding the integrity and confidentiality of financial information.

The Must-Haves
• Background: This role requires an Associate degree in Accounting, Business, Finance, or a related field. Candidates with equivalent practical experience in an accounting support capacity will also be considered, demonstrating a foundational understanding of financial principles.
• Experience: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other Microsoft Office applications is essential. Candidates must also have experience using accounting software to manage financial transactions and records effectively.
• Skills: Possess a strong working knowledge of fundamental bookkeeping principles and generally accepted accounting practices. This includes excellent attention to detail and accuracy in all financial tasks, strong organizational and time management skills to handle multiple priorities, and the critical ability to maintain confidentiality with sensitive financial information. You should also demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills for professional interactions.
• Bonus: A minimum of 2 years of proven bookkeeping or accounting support experience is preferred, providing a solid foundation for the responsibilities of this role.
