Accountant – Coral Gables Campus | University of Miami
The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the University of Miami, located in Coral Gables, FL. This Accountant position is vital for overseeing internal accounting and reporting functions for assigned departments, assisting management with fiscal functions, and ensuring compliance with University policies and fund availability, particularly within Facilities Operations & Planning capital projects.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Review Project Financials: Scrutinize purchase orders, invoices, supplier contracts, progress payment requests, and change orders associated with Facilities Design & Construction capital projects.
• Coordinate Stakeholders: Act as a liaison between vendors, contractors, University of Miami Purchasing, Accounts Payable, client financial representatives, and project managers to ensure accurate project financial activities.
• Manage Project Accounting: Support the financial close of project accounts, provide summaries, prepare and post journal entries, and maintain internal financial reports for Facilities Design & Construction projects.
• Reconcile and Resolve: Examine, reconcile, and troubleshoot discrepancies on financial reports for all projects, making necessary corrections and identifying outstanding financial issues.
• Generate Financial Reports: Compile monthly financial reports and analyses on projects for management, prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other financial reports.
The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with core domain knowledge in generally accepted accounting procedures and principles.
• Experience: Minimum 1 year of relevant experience, demonstrating the application of accounting principles to manage project accounts.
• Skills: Advanced proficiency in MS Excel; proficiency in MS Office products (Word, Outlook); previous experience with Adobe Acrobat; solid analytical, communication, and customer service skills; meticulous attention to detail and a high level of accuracy.
• Bonus: Knowledge of construction cost accounting and related financial procedures.
