What You’ll Actually Do
• Process and record diverse financial transactions using designated accounting software and Microsoft Office applications, maintaining financial security by following internal controls and protocol for assigned departments or colleges.
• Review and reconcile all financial transactions and agency accounts for assigned areas, conducting daily and monthly audits of statements and reports to ensure accuracy and full compliance with university policies.
• Substantiate financial transactions by auditing documents and providing essential financial support to faculty, staff, and other campus partners by answering inquiries related to agency and general ledger account activities.
• Produce both scheduled and ad hoc financial reports, monitoring unit email accounts to address customer queries, and reviewing, tracking, and verifying submitted financial documentation for completeness and correctness.
• Research and interpret accounting policies and regulations to identify and resolve accounting issues, offering recommendations and implementing best practices to improve business efficiencies within the assigned unit.
The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in Accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of relevant education and/or experience. Candidates must possess a strong understanding of core accounting processes including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, and Accounts Receivable, as well as KSU, Board of Regents, and State of Georgia Accounting Policies and Procedures.
• Experience: A minimum of one (1) year of related work experience. Preference is given to candidates with previous experience reviewing and reconciling financial statements.
• Skills: Demonstrated ability to prioritize workload effectively and work with minimum supervision, managing multiple tasks or projects simultaneously while meeting assigned deadlines. Essential skills include excellent interpersonal, initiative, teamwork, problem-solving, independent judgment, organization, communication (verbal and written), time management, project management, and presentation skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite is required, along with strong customer service skills, phone and e-mail etiquette, and meticulous attention to detail for maintaining organized and timely records.
• Bonus: Familiarity with PeopleSoft Financials and Banner systems. An advanced degree from an accredited institution of higher education related to accounting, finance, business, or another related field is also preferred.
