Accountant | SmartStop Self Storage

The Tone:
This is a full-time, hybrid role at SmartStop Self Storage, located in Ladera Ranch, CA. SmartStop is one of North America’s largest and fastest-growing self-storage operators, managing over 200 properties with more than 18.7 million rentable square feet. This role is crucial for ensuring the accurate and timely monthly financial close for a portfolio of self-storage properties, maintaining strong internal controls, and supporting treasury and internal reporting functions. This position directly contributes to the financial health and operational success of a rapidly expanding company.

• Mission: Manage the monthly financial close process for approximately 20 self-storage properties, ensuring accurate financial statements and maintaining robust internal controls.
• Tech Stack: Microsoft Excel, Great Plains

What You’ll Actually Do
• Reconcile accounts: Produce accurate journal entries, manage banking activities, and complete account reconciliations.
• Prepare financial statements: Develop monthly balance sheets and income statements for assigned properties.
• Analyze performance: Review budget versus actual results and report on variances.
• Support acquisitions: Assist with the financial integration of newly acquired properties as needed.
• Deliver reports: Compile comprehensive monthly reporting packages for each property.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance, or comparable work experience. Career level: Early-Career.
• Experience: Demonstrated experience working with GAAP financial statements.
• Skills: Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel; strong organizational, analytical, and oral & written communication skills; detail-oriented approach with the ability to multitask effectively; capacity to adapt quickly to change and work independently.
• Bonus: Experience with Great Plains software.
