USS Accountant | University of Iowa

The Tone:
This is a full-time role at the University of Iowa, located remotely within Iowa. The University of Iowa is a leading Big Ten public research institution dedicated to advancing education, research, and student success. This Accountant position is vital to the Shared Services Department, playing a key role in performing and coordinating day-to-day accounting and finance activities. The individual in this role will directly support assigned departments by providing accurate and timely financial information, ensuring efficient transaction processing, and maintaining excellent customer service.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Expense Processing: Process orders and expenses through financial systems, accurately determining appropriate accounts and funding for payments.
• Travel Management: Create and review travel reimbursements to ensure compliance with pertinent laws and regulations, then process payments as appropriate.
• Transaction Initiation: Initiate eVouchers, eDeposits, reconcile procurement card vouchers, and create travel expense vouchers.
• Compliance and Procurement: Determine and follow university travel, accounts payable, purchasing, cash handling, and bid procedures, contracts, and federal regulations to ensure appropriate purchases, including creating catalog and inventory orders.

The Must-Haves
• Background: A Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Experience: Typically 6 months of related accounting experience.
• Skills: Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Word, strong interpersonal skills including excellent customer service, good organizational skills, strong analytical/statistical skills, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Bonus: Knowledge of automated accounting or financial systems, familiarity with PeopleSoft Financials, ePro, ProTrav, and APPO systems, and knowledge of University policies and procedures.
