Staff Accountant/Accountant 1 | ASTEC

The Tone:
This is a full-time Staff Accountant/Accountant 1 role at Astec, located in Chattanooga, TN. Astec is a global, environmentally focused infrastructure and manufacturing company specializing in asphalt road building and aggregate processing, dedicated to designing and building innovative products. This role is crucial for providing management with accurate financial information, maintaining tax registrations, ensuring timely sales/use/excise tax filings, and reconciling inventory to help Astec maintain its competitive edge in the industry.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Financial Reporting: Prepare consolidated internal and external financial statements by gathering and analyzing general ledger information.
• Account Reconciliation: Maintain and balance the automated consolidation system, prepare general ledger entries, and reconcile accounts.
• Tax Compliance: Prepare and file all sales/use/excise tax returns within required state deadlines.
• Procedure Development: Develop and implement accounting procedures by analyzing current processes and recommending changes.
• Operational Support: Provide support for accounts receivable and accounts payable functions and prepare business and backlog reports, including resolving data discrepancies.

The Must-Haves
• Background: Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited University or College with a strong understanding of accounting principles and general ledger transaction recording and reconciliation.
• Experience: 0 to 3 years of accounting experience.
• Skills: Detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, ability to manage multiple tasks, proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software, and accounting software.
