Staff Accountant | Motion
The Tone:
This is a full-time Staff Accountant role at Motion, located in Birmingham, Alabama. In this position, you will operate under direct supervision as a core team member, contributing to the financial health and reporting accuracy of the organization. You will be responsible for performing accounting analysis and reporting financial transactions of intermediate complexity, ensuring strict adherence to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP). Your work will be crucial in maintaining the integrity of general ledger accounts, preparing data for comprehensive financial statements, supporting quarterly and annual regulatory filings, and ensuring accurate financial monitoring.

What You’ll Actually Do
• Accounting Close: Ensure the timely completion of journal entries and month-end close activities.
• Reconciliations: Participate in account reconciliation research and clearance processes for products issued.
• Reporting Support: Assist in producing and reviewing monthly and quarterly financial reports, as well as annual financial statements.
• Analysis: Perform variance analysis and analytical procedures for assigned general ledger accounts.
• Process Improvement: Drive process change and identify opportunities for process improvements within accounting functions.
The Must-Haves
• Background: This role typically requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related business field. It is designed for an early-career professional with zero (0) to two (2) years of relevant experience, who possesses a foundational understanding of finance, accounting principles, financial analysis, and reporting in accordance with US GAAP.
• Experience: Candidates should have zero (0) to two (2) years of professional experience related to accounting functions. This includes demonstrating an understanding of and practical experience with general ledger maintenance, inter-company accounting procedures, and consolidated reporting processes.
• Skills:
• Effective written and verbal communication skills are essential for collaborating with team members and various levels of colleagues.
• Demonstrated analytical abilities are crucial for performing variance analysis, account research, and problem-solving financial discrepancies.
• Strong time management and prioritization skills are necessary to manage multiple tasks and meet critical deadlines effectively.
• The ability to be a self-starter with a strong work ethic, demonstrating initiative and leadership potential within accounting operations.
• Bonus: Strong spreadsheet skills are highly preferred for efficiently handling data, preparing reports, and performing detailed financial analysis.
