The Army’s dedicated healthcare organization, initially established as the “Army Hospital” in July 1775, has a foundational mission to coordinate essential medical care. Born from the vital needs of the Continental Army during the Revolutionary War, its commitment continues today under the leadership of the Surgeon General, providing comprehensive healthcare services to ensure the well-being of service members.
We foster a culture of professionalism and unwavering service, supported by extensive training programs through the Academy of Health Sciences. Our headquarters is located at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas, where the AMEDD Center and School is also based. Additionally, senior leadership maintains a significant presence in the Washington D.C. area, including key roles within the Pentagon and at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.
