Job Description

This is an internship opportunity for a highly qualified future engineer, focusing on gaining design experience.

Key Learning Outcomes: The intern will gain a strong understanding of the importance and function of shearwall and uplift hardware. They will also acquire broad experience in:
AutoCAD detailing
Shearwall and uplift hold down design
RFI and submittal review processes
Submittal quality control
National structural and architectural standards
Valuable leadership skills

Responsibilities:
File Management: Check incoming files (Structural and Architectural PDFs and CADs, etc.) to ensure usability and the presence of all components required by CLP Systems. Create or update records with new files and information.
AutoCAD Detailing: Utilize AutoCAD to produce shop drawing submittals For Approval and For Construction. This includes detailing concrete and framing cut sections, rod system wall sections, and symbol layouts.
Design and Review: Use Revu Bluebeam to identify loads, design requirements, and details in structural and architectural packages relevant to the system’s design. Design and review tie down system components using an in-house Excel VBA design program.
Engineering Improvement: Apply engineering concepts to improve system design and identify opportunities for cost savings.

Qualifications and Requirements:
Student Status: Must be an undergraduate student.
Location: Must be in the Birmingham, AL area.
Major: Majoring in engineering or an associated field of study.
Preferred Majors: Construction and Building Science, Structural Engineering, Civil Engineering, Mechanical Engineering.
Skills:
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Proficient in AutoCAD.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• A proactive mindset.
• Possess engineering knowledge and design experience.
• Produce consistent quality.
