Job Description
This is a paid internship position within the Planning Division of Lehi City’s Community Development Department. The internship offers an excellent opportunity for students to gain practical experience in urban planning, develop professional skills, and expand their network within the urban planning, real estate development, and design sectors.
Key Details:
• Job Title: Planning Internship
• Closing Date: July 30, 2025
• Pay Rate: $18 – $20 per hour (Depending on Qualifications)
• Schedule: 10 to 20 hours per week, extending through Spring of 2026. A minimum commitment of 10-15 hours per week is required, with 20 hours per week being preferred.
Responsibilities (Essential Functions):
The Planning Intern will provide comprehensive support to the Planning Division Staff, including but not limited to:
• Assisting in the collection and preparation of data and research.
• Contributing to the drafting of zoning regulations.
• Preparing various planning reports.
• Providing support at community meetings.
• Performing basic Planning Division functions such as data entry, file management, posting public notice signs, recording documents and subdivision mylars, and customer service.
• Assisting in the creation of long-range plans and maps.
• Aiding in the moving and installation of bike and pedestrian counters.
Minimum Qualifications:
Candidates must meet the following criteria:
• Education: Graduation from high school and currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate degree program in Urban Planning or Urban Ecology.
• Computer Skills: Competency in various computer software programs, including Microsoft Office and internet applications. Knowledge of GIS and Sketchup is a plus but not required.
• Analytical Skills: Strong research and analytical skills.
• Work Ethic: Motivated self-starter capable of working independently with minimal direction.
• Teamwork: Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
• Adaptability: Flexibility and a desire to work on varying planning projects.
• Communication: Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
• Knowledge Base: Considerable knowledge of the theories, principles, and objectives of planning operations, including land use, multi-modal transportation, and sustainability.
• Interpersonal Skills: Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City employees, other agencies, and the public.
