This application is for Fish’s 2026 Summer Associate Program, accepting applications for U.S. office locations, excluding Chicago. The program is designed to provide a realistic experience of life as an associate at Fish, covering aspects from training programs and drafting memos to strategic discussions over working lunches. It aims to prepare participants to potentially join the firm’s ranks by offering complex client work assignments and extensive training.

What You Will Do:
The responsibilities of a Summer Associate vary based on the track:
For Patent Prosecution Summer Associates: You will be responsible for drafting patent applications.
For Patent Litigation Summer Associates: You will conduct research and draft memos for litigation cases.
General Opportunities: You may have opportunities to attend client meetings, depositions, and even trials, providing firsthand exposure to legal proceedings.
Cultural Immersion: Summer associates will have the chance to explore their office’s city and experience local culture, guided by the firm’s attorneys.
Firmwide Retreat: All summer associates will attend a firmwide retreat designed for comprehensive training, networking with colleagues and attorneys from various offices, and fun activities.

Who You Are (Qualifications):
The ideal candidate for the Summer Associate Program possesses the following attributes and qualifications:
Academic and Professional Excellence: A demonstrated strong record in science or technology is required.
Superior Writing Ability: Excellent written communication skills are essential for drafting legal documents and memos.
Curiosity and Motivation: You should be inquisitive and eager to learn how things work, particularly in the scientific and technological fields related to intellectual property.
Educational Standing: You must be in good standing as a law student at an ABA accredited law school, with an anticipated graduation date of Spring 2027.
Enthusiasm and Drive: A high level of enthusiasm and eagerness to embrace challenges are valued.
Team-Oriented and Adaptable: You should thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
Specific Requirements for Patent Litigation and Patent Prosecution Summer Positions: In addition to the general qualifications, a scientific or technical background (evidenced by a degree and/or relevant experience), excellent academic credentials, and superior writing ability are mandatory.

Salary:
The salary for the 2025 Summer Associate Program was $4,327 per week.
