About the Job: DoD SkillBridge Unpaid Internship – Engineer Field 2

This is an UNPAID internship specifically for transitioning active-duty US military personnel through the DoD SkillBridge Program. The program allows eligible service members to gain real-world civilian work experience during their final 180 days of active-duty service. HII Mission Technologies focuses on placing military personnel into internships that align their existing knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), education, and military training with potential full-time, regular, and permanent jobs at HII.

Summary and Objective:
The SkillBridge intern will train as an Engineer Field 2 with the objective of learning the maintenance actions and duties required of a Field Technician 2. This role involves providing availability planning, troubleshooting, and repair of Trainers for the Project Team and the RADAR, Interior Communications, and Boatswain’s Mate schoolhouse personnel at Naval Station Great Lakes (GLKS). The intern will also be assigned special projects as needed.

Desired End State (3-Month Target):
By the end of the three-month internship, the intern is expected to:
• Develop skills to provide independent technical support for the three schoolhouses and the project team.
• Be proficient in using a personal computer for analyses, documentation/reports, and inventory control.
• Develop a strong understanding of:
• RADAR Part Task Trainers
• VIDVR Trainers
• Announcing Part Task Trainers
• Alarms Part Task Trainers
• Networking Part Task Trainers
• QM and QS Viscom Trainers
• MCFL Trainer
• Spare Parts tracking and inventory control
HII Mission Technologies anticipates benefiting from the intern’s military background, specifically their naval Fire Control knowledge and experience related to Naval Station Great Lakes.

Assumptions/Restrictions:
• The SkillBridge Intern must possess a Secret Clearance.
• The SkillBridge Intern must be available during the business hours of the contract supported for meetings and training.

Program of Instruction / Training Plan:
The internship follows a structured 12-week training plan:
Week 1: In-processing, introductions, office familiarization, and understanding the roles and responsibilities of the HII Onsite Technical Representative.
Week 2: Introduction to various GLKS entities and the Mission Technologies team, along with applicable safety measures and required training for HII personnel.
Week 3: Introduction to basic HII operations, maintenance, inventory control, and documentation for reporting.
Week 4: Introduction to RADAR Part Task Trainers.
Weeks 5 & 6: Introduction/familiarization to Announcing Part Task Trainers.
Week 7: Introduction/familiarization to Alarms Part Task Trainers.
Week 8: Introduction/familiarization to Boatswain’s Mate VIDVR system.
Week 9: Introduction/familiarization to Boatswain’s Mate MCFL QM, and QC Viscom Systems.
Week 10: Introduction/familiarization to Networking Part Task Trainers.
Week 11: Demonstrate an understanding of all previously listed systems and Part Task Trainers (PTTs).
Week 12: Engage with the HII Project Manager and team for performance and evaluation feedback.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Active-Duty Military ONLY, within the final 180 days of active-duty service (applications accepted during the final 12 months).
• USN (United States Navy) qualifications in operations/maintenance of non-Aegis Fire Control Radar.
• Active Secret Clearance.
• Education and experience requirements are dependent on the specific Program of Instruction.
