About the Job

This role is for an Archaeology Assistant (Heritage), with positions available in Victoria (VIC) and New South Wales (NSW).

This position offers a unique opportunity to gain valuable experience and contribute to high-quality heritage and archaeological solutions for clients. It is described as a “Student Program” or “internship,” implying a focus on professional growth alongside academic studies.

General Responsibilities (as part of the broader Heritage Team):

• Assist with archaeological excavations, including monitoring, manual excavation, and recording features and relics.
• Build relationships with peers in other Business Units.
• Learn technical aspects of archaeology and heritage projects, including fieldwork, research, and assessments.
• Advise clients on legislative requirements and technical archaeological matters.
• Work on multi-disciplinary projects, meeting specifications, deadlines, and budgets.
• Prepare weekly timesheets and input to monthly accounts.
• Contribute to a safe workplace and comply with health, safety, and wellbeing policies.

Specific Role Responsibilities (as an Archaeology Assistant):

• Assist in archaeological excavation and recording of features and relics.
• Support a range of services including consultation, fieldwork, and historical archaeological assessments.
• Assist with the development of proposals and tenders for potential clients and projects.
• Meet allocated budget and timeframes.

Required Qualifications and Skills (“About You”):

Currently undertaking tertiary qualifications in archaeology.
• At least 1 year of experience in conducting archaeological excavation and reporting, with emphasis on Australian Indigenous and historical archaeology (preferred).
• Proven skills in research, interpretation, report writing, and effective communication.
Passionate, hardworking, and a great fit for Urbis’s spirited, collaborative culture.
Must have valid working rights in Australia.
Must be studying throughout the duration of the internship to be eligible.
