The U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR) is the specific department offering this internship. Its mission is to reduce excessive frivolous litigation and restore fairness and balance to the nation’s civil justice system. This mission is pursued through legislative, judicial, and educational activities at national, local, and international levels.

Job description

This is a Legal Intern position within the U.S. Chamber Institute for Legal Reform (ILR).

Internship Schedule & Details:
Duration: Monday, September 15 through Friday, November 21, 2025.
Hours: Part-time, up to 20 hours per week.
Schedule: Hybrid; interns are expected to be in the office at least two days a week at the U.S. Chamber of Commerce headquarters in downtown Washington, D.C. Fully remote applicants will not be considered.
Compensation: $20.00 per hour.
Academic Credit: Students may also receive academic credit if their school’s criteria are met.

Position Overview:
Legal interns will assist ILR in implementing federal and state programs. This involves a variety of tasks including legislative and legal research, memo writing, and updating fundraising materials.

Responsibilities:
• Conduct specific issue-related research.
• Write analytical memos.
• Participate in ILR member task force calls, meetings, and other important events.
• Attend/watch and report on congressional hearings and events.

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree and currently pursuing a Juris Doctorate (J.D.).
Skills:
• Outstanding organizational skills and attention to detail.
• Ability to prioritize tasks in a changing environment.
• Excellent interpersonal and follow-up skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Technical Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, Internet, and Outlook.
