About the Job: Grant Writing Intern

Position Summary:
The Grant Writing Intern holds a crucial role in supporting U.S. Hunger’s overarching mission. This position is primarily focused on identifying and securing funding opportunities, while also emphasizing the importance of uplifting lived experiences. The intern will report directly to the Data & Research Writer.

Key Responsibilities and Contributions:

1. Grant Acquisition:
• Assisting in researching and applying for grants.
• Securing funding for critical programs such as Hunger Projects and Full Cart, as well as contributing to general operating needs of the organization.

2. Content Development for Data Center:
• Contributing written content for U.S. Hunger’s Data Center. This is a public platform designed to explore the fundamental drivers of food insecurity.
• A significant aspect of this role involves highlighting the voices of those served by the organization and elaborating on the complexities and nuances of hunger and food insecurity within the United States.
Sample topics include:
• “Shame and Hunger: Breaking the Stigma Through Lived Experiences”
• “Why Women Are Especially Vulnerable to Facing Food Insecurity”

Learning and Development Opportunities:

The intern will engage in cross-departmental collaboration to gain a comprehensive understanding of U.S. Hunger’s impact, enabling them to effectively communicate the organization’s mission to potential funders. This role is designed to enhance professionalism, foster a strong network in the nonprofit sector, and allow for a direct contribution to meaningful societal change.

Main Responsibilities (Detailed List):
• Conducting grant and funding research.
Writing and editing grant responses.
• Developing written content for the Data Center.
Collaborating across departments within U.S. Hunger and with external partners.

Minimum Requirements:
Strong written communication skills (Required).
• Ability to perform effectively under tight deadlines.
• Demonstrated knowledge of how to structure research papers/grants.
• Possession of comprehensive research & analytical skills.
• Exhibiting high attention to detail with a strong emphasis on accuracy and thoroughness.
• Provision of samples to showcase abilities (Required).
