Job Description: Endoscopy Tech

The Endoscopy Tech at Hackensack Meridian Health plays a crucial role in supporting the Endoscopy Unit, working closely with Registered Nurses (RNs) and physicians.

Key Responsibilities Include:

Patient Intake & Care: Admitting patients, verifying identification, orienting them to the unit, and taking/recording vital signs. Participating in the patient’s plan of care as directed by the RN.
Observation & Reporting: Observing and promptly reporting any unusual conditions, reactions, or occurrences to the nurse in charge.
Procedure Assistance: Assisting physicians with various procedures performed in the Endoscopy Unit.
Patient Logistics: Transferring patients to other departments like x-ray when necessary and accompanying patients to the lobby upon discharge.
Patient Comfort & Support: Ordering food from Dietary and assisting patients with meals as needed. Providing locker space for patient belongings.
Medical Procedures: Administering enemas as ordered by a Medical Doctor (M.D.) and under the supervision of an RN.
Unit Maintenance & Preparation: Daily checking and stocking of linen and CSR carts. Cleaning and preparing stretchers after use, and preparing the general area for the next day.
Administrative Tasks: Scheduling endoscopy procedures, ensuring appropriate time allocation for each patient. Compiling endoscopy charts and assisting with clerical responsibilities like labeling charts.
Emergency Response: Assisting with patient emergencies by obtaining necessary equipment and performing other duties requested by the RN, demonstrating awareness of emergency codes.
Patient-Centered Care: Identifying and addressing the specific needs of diverse patient populations (e.g., age, culture, language, sensory impairments) by modifying and delivering care accordingly, including effective communication with patients and/or caregivers at their comprehension level.
Compliance: Adhering to the standards outlined in the Medical Center’s Organizational Competencies.

Qualifications:

Education (Required): High School diploma, general equivalency diploma (GED), or GED equivalent programs.
Experience (Required): A minimum of two years’ experience as a nursing assistant or technician.
Education (Preferred): Graduate of an approved Nurses Assistant Program.
Licenses and Certifications (Required/Preferred): Not specified in the provided job description.
