Job Description:

Job Title: Project Intern, Mechanical
Reports to: Project Manager
Location: Ashburn, VA; Baltimore, MD; Lancaster, OH
FLSA Status: Full-Time or Part-Time / Hourly Non-Exempt

Summary:

The Project Intern will support the Project Team by assisting with coordinating project information for the assigned department.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Support the Project Manager in driving the project’s overall flow from start to finish.
• Review contract and bid documents from estimating, understand project scope, and attend walk-throughs.
• Assist with project document control, including insurance, bonding, permits, submittals, RFIs, change orders, and correspondence, ensuring proper storage in the project’s designated software.
• Verify correct drawing distribution to the field.
• Support project schedule by tracking completion and delivery dates.
• Track deliveries of major equipment and subs, including shipping requirements.
• Facilitate material takeoffs by trade foreman.
• Support the accounting department with monthly billings and collections.
• Collaborate with the foreman regarding project safety (toolbox talks and weekly walk-throughs).
• Gather information for changes in work and provide it to estimating for pricing. Ensure no work starts before approval.
• Assist field personnel with project closeout.
• Obtain as-built drawings from the field.
• Escalate critical issues to the Project Manager with recommendations.
• Comply with company policies, procedures, and safety programs.
• Perform additional assignments as needed.

Qualifications:

• Mechanical Engineering or Construction Management Degree (in progress or completed) from an accredited institution, OR equivalent experience.

Computer Skills:

• Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Word, Excel).
• Familiarity with AutoCAD and other technical/construction programs is preferred.
• Familiarity with project management/document control software is preferred.
