Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) is a global nonprofit housing organization working in local communities across the U.S. and around the world. HFHI’s strategic plan focuses on policy changes to expand access to quality, affordable housing for millions. It aims to support local Habitat organizations in the U.S. by providing them with the tools, knowledge, and resources needed to champion policy solutions at all levels of government.

Job Description:

The U.S. Advocacy Intern will report to the U.S. Advocacy Engagement Specialist and play a key role in advancing Habitat for Humanity’s advocacy goals. The intern will primarily focus on developing user-friendly, action-oriented intranet resources to build advocacy capacity among Habitat affiliates across the U.S.

Key Responsibilities:

Resource Creation: Produce tools, templates, and resources to build advocacy knowledge among Habitat affiliates. Prioritize resources covering government outreach and engagement, advocacy communications, and coalition building.
Research: Conduct research on effective practices from the Habitat network, peer nonprofits, and advocacy organizations to identify best-in-class tools and examples.
Project Management: Develop a comprehensive project plan for developing all of the resources, including collaborating on a promotion strategy for the resources.
Design & Layout: Collaborate on resource and webpage design, layout, and formatting to ensure optimized user experience.
Team Support: Support and attend team meetings, regularly providing updates on work as needed.
Additional Responsibilities: Handle additional responsibilities as assigned.

Requirements:

• Current undergraduate or graduate student.
• Great initiative and the ability to self-direct, manage one’s own time to complete all projects and varied tasks.
• Exceptionally strong writing skills, particularly writing for diverse audiences and/or writing for the web.
• Comfort with research and analysis.
• Consistent attention to detail.
• Strong communications and interpersonal skills.
• Willingness to take on individual projects as well as work in a team.
• Microsoft Office savvy.

Preferred:

• Advocacy and policy experience.
• Nonprofit experience.
• Interest in affordable housing issues.

Compensation:

• Undergraduate students: \$17 per hour.
• Graduate students: \$19 per hour.
