Job Description:

The Otterbein University Courtright Memorial Library is seeking a Graduate Intern for Customer Service who is responsible for performing and supervising the circulation functions necessary to maintain library operations during extended evening hours. This position reports to the Circulation Manager and is a part-time, 12-month position (working breaks), 20 hours/week. During the academic year, required hours include Sun 7pm-12midnight, Mon-Thurs 9pm-12midnight and 3 choice hours (preferably consistent throughout a single term). Hours will vary during summer and university breaks.

Benefits include a bi-weekly stipend and a tuition waiver.

Responsibilities:

• Assisting in all late-night activities of the circulation desk.
• Assisting in the training and supervision of undergraduate student assistants. Motivating student assistants to perform assigned duties effectively, including desk activities and stack maintenance. Providing basic reference/research assistance as needed and responsible for closing the library with an undergraduate student/secure the facility.
• Assisting with the processing of materials for the course reserve collection, connecting with faculty/staff regarding new additions to course reserves and future course reserve needs.
• Using university-wide FMX software to schedule library classrooms/other bookable spaces. Create and post signage daily to show what events are happening in each space.
• Exercising discretion, judgment, and providing clear guidance to library users in enforcing library policies and procedures. Responsible for maintaining an appropriate sound level in the building, monitoring the building and reporting any security infractions/problems and/or building maintenance issues to appropriate team members, the Library Director, and/or other relevant parties.
• Working as a member of the Public Services team (Circulation and Research Help), assisting with library-wide projects and participating in cross-training, and maintaining open lines of communication with the Public Services team, Library Director, and other library employees.
• Other duties may be assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervises undergraduate student workers as assigned.

Requirements:

• Must be accepted into: The Master of Art in Teaching or Master of Art in Education program at Otterbein University or the on-line Master of Business Administration/Management, Individualized Master in Humanities and Individualized Master in Social Science at Antioch University
• Must be available to work on the Otterbein University campus.
Education and/or Experience: Undergraduate degree required; must enroll and be admitted into an Otterbein graduate or post-baccalaureate program and make satisfactory academic progress toward degree. Previous experience in a library and/or office environment preferred.
Language Skills: Must demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Mathematical Skills: Must be competent in general math.
Technical Skills: Ability to apply knowledge of office functions, library methods, and techniques to perform duties. Must take pride in and be thorough in the quality of work produced; must be able to use general office equipment and Microsoft Office software. Must possess excellent organizational skills; must possess the ability to supervise others; must be accurate in work performed.
Reasoning Ability: Must be discrete and keep confidential information and materials; must possess excellent attention to detail; must be a team player and interact collegially with co-workers and other constituencies.
Physical Demands: Must be able to spend prolonged periods of time working on an office PC; able to reach, lift up to 20 pounds, travel throughout the office to use other office equipment; must be able to hear and make self heard by co-workers and other constituencies; must be able to see to process work that the position is responsible for completing; must be able to work under deadlines with constant interruptions. Must be able to meet regular and predictable attendance standards.
Work Environment: Duties are performed in an environmentally controlled office setting.
