Job Description:

KOIN 6 in Portland, Oregon, is offering internships for college students interested in journalism, communications, sales, and marketing. This is an unpaid internship program for college credit only. The internship requires 16 hours per week and typically lasts 8 to 12 weeks.

Key aspects of the KOIN 6 Internship Program:

Hands-on Experience: Interns gain an in-depth look into broadcast and digital media.
Academic Credit: Interns *must• receive academic credit for their internship.
Unpaid: The internships are unpaid.
Requirements:
• Full-time student enrolled in their junior or senior year.
• Letter from academic advisor certifying junior/senior status and academic credit.
• Pre-arranged hourly schedule with supervisor.
• Performance of assigned duties and responsibilities.

Internship Opportunities Available In:

Everyday Northwest and AM Extra Lifestyle Shows: Assist producers in planning and preparing a lifestyle and entertainment show. Duties include writing scripts, researching local businesses, confirming guest appearances, prop setup, and cleanup.
News: Work alongside the Assignment Desk, Weather, Photographers/Editors, and Reporters/Anchors. Requires a writing background and strong English/grammar skills.
Digital Media: Write for all forms of digital media, produce multimedia stories, create social media posts, and assist in operating a dynamic website. Requires writing/editing courses and knowledge of WordPress, CMS, and social media platforms.
Promotions: Assist in creating and coordinating marketing and promotional activities. Requires creativity, organization, and the ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
Sports: Write, shoot, and edit sports reports for newscasts. TV production courses and knowledge of AVID, Final Cut, or Adobe Creative Suite are preferred.
Sales/Marketing/Programming: Learn phone etiquette, presentation skills, and the interaction between advertisers and the television station.
Programming/Production: Learn the dub and digital editing process of commercials, and assist on-air talents with board operation.
