The University of Michigan’s Department of Otolaryngology & Head and Neck Surgery is offering a research opportunity through the Michigan Otolaryngology Research Education (MORE): R25 Pre-Doctoral Fellowship. This program aims to train the next generation of leaders in the field, enabling residents and medical students to develop successful careers as clinician-scientists.
Program Details:
• Two dedicated 9-month research positions are available for medical students per year (start/end dates are flexible but must conclude by June 30 of the subsequent year).
• A stipend is provided, along with discretionary support for research materials, meeting attendance/presentation, training, and coursework.
• The program includes didactic experiences in research ethics and other fields, as well as mentorship and career support.
• Research Projects will offer comprehensive research opportunities in the fields of Hearing and Deafness; Balance; Taste Disorders; Voice, Speech, Swallowing and Language; and Head and Neck Cancer.
• Important: Candidates must have already submitted and received approval for an R25 MORE Pre-Doctoral application to be eligible.
Responsibilities:
• Perform basic or applied research in an area of considerable scope and complexity.
• Identify and select problems to be studied.
• Perform experiments, collect and analyze data.
• Prepare research results for publication in reports, papers, journals, books, and other media.
• Prepare seminars, talks, or lectures for dissemination of knowledge, particularly the results of research undertaken.
• Develop working relationships with sponsors or potential sponsors.
• Assist in the preparation of detailed research proposals to funding agencies.
Required Qualifications:
• NIH requires that by the time of the appointment to the program, individuals must be a citizen or a noncitizen national of the United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence (possess a currently valid Permanent Resident Care USCIS Form 1-551, or other legal verification of such status).
• Applicants must be in good academic standing and enrolled in medical school.
• Applications for predoctoral positions are considered on a rolling basis.
