About Company:

Lensa is a career site focused on connecting job seekers with opportunities at all career stages. They are assisting MD Anderson Cancer Center in their search for professionals.

Job Description:

MD Anderson Cancer Center is seeking a full-time Research Intern to join Dr. Ye Zheng’s lab within the Department of Bioinformatics and Computational Biology at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX.

Lab Focus: Dr. Zheng’s lab (https://compbiowizard.github.io./) focuses on the intersection of statistical, computational, and biomedical sciences. The lab develops methods to understand gene cis-regulatory mechanisms using data from transcriptomics, epigenomics, proteomics, and three-dimensional (3D) chromatin interaction studies.

Learning Objectives:

The Research Intern will leverage single-cell/bulk-cell multi-omics data, spatial omics data, and image data to uncover cancer-specific mechanisms that explain differences in treatment efficacy and toxicity across patients. The role offers an opportunity to contribute to biological, clinically important, and methodologically challenging problems by innovating cutting-edge statistical models and computational methods.

Eligibility Requirements:

• Applicants must hold a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Statistics, Computer Science, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Engineering, Data Science, or a related field.
Solid training in Statistics/Mathematics: Past course or research training in statistics, including mathematical statistics, statistical inference, and linear regression.
Strong computational skills:
• Proficient in programming languages R, Python, and Shell.
• Extensive usage of high-performance computing environments on Linux servers, with experience in submitting batch-run jobs.
• Experienced in processing and analyzing bulk/single-cell genomic data or spatial omics data or image data.
• Experienced in developing computational tools, such as R packages, Python modules, interactive webpages, and computational pipelines.
• Ability to conduct highly organized and reproducible research.
• Strong communication, writing, and collaboration ability. Publications and manuscripts under review are recommended to demonstrate academic writing ability.

Additional Application Information:

• Review the project description at https://compbiowizard.github.io./.
• To apply, email the following to Dr. Ye Zheng at yzheng8@mdanderson.org:
• A cover letter describing past contributions to the field, future research plan, career development plan, scientific motivation and interests that align with Dr. Zheng’s lab.
• A curriculum vitae (CV) that includes publications and GitHub links of past project codes or developed software.
• Emails and phone numbers of a list of three references.

Position Information:

• This position (full-time or part-time) provides a stipend between $28,000 and $36,000.
