Job Description:
The STS Tax Associate, Business Incentives Group position plays a vital role in BDO’s continued success. The Associate will assist companies and individuals in identifying and claiming government incentives aimed at fostering innovation, economic growth, and job creation within the U.S. A key focus will be on credits for sustainability and green initiatives.
The client base is composed of innovative leaders across diverse industries, including technology, manufacturing, life sciences, healthcare, retail, consumer products, and natural resources. The Associate will have the opportunity to collaborate with BDO professionals from various business lines, and directly with clients’ innovation leaders in areas such as tax, accounting, finance, engineering, software, manufacturing, and science.
Key Responsibilities:
• Client Engagement: Actively participate in multiple client engagements.
• Collaboration & Innovation: Work with STS BIG professionals to develop and implement improved strategies and processes for services and marketing.
• Relationship Building: Cultivate strong relationships with internal (BDO employees) and external (clients) stakeholders.
• Technical Development: Enhance personal technical skills and contribute to STS BIG’s market prominence.
• Market Awareness: Stay current on local and national business and economic trends.
• Business Development: Participate in business development activities, network with professionals, and identify opportunities for new and existing clients.
• Company Culture: Contribute to and enhance the positive culture within STS BIG, local offices, and BDO.
Short-Term Goals: Assist clients in efficiently identifying, documenting, and supporting incentive claims during tax audits.
Long-Term Goals: Develop strong client relationships, becoming a trusted advisor who understands clients’ business operations and drivers. This involves assisting clients in achieving their goals leveraging BDO’s expertise.
The company also aims to develop its Associates into trusted advisors by providing training and opportunities to enhance skills in various areas, including technical expertise, communication (verbal and written), project management, practice management, and business development.
Qualifications:
• Education: Bachelor’s degree is required, with a preferred focus in Accounting, Finance, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics, Communications, or Law.
• Experience: Leadership experience and accounting-based internships are preferred but not mandatory.
• Software Proficiency: Advanced Microsoft Excel and intermediate Microsoft Word skills are preferred.
• Skills & Abilities: Excellent communication (written and verbal), entrepreneurial spirit, leadership capabilities, ability to work independently and within a team, strong organizational and project management skills, ability to multi-task effectively, strong initiative, and a customer service focus are all essential.
Compensation: Individual salaries vary based on qualifications, experience, skills, and location. Salary ranges are provided for several states (California, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, NYC/Long Island/Westchester, Washington, and Washington DC).
