Job Description: Graphic Designer II
This position is based in the Birmingham, AL home office and is not remote. The Graphic Designer II is responsible for a variety of graphic design and pre-press functions, ensuring customer satisfaction and service. The role requires a high level of proficiency in design software and a strong understanding of print and digital media production.
Responsibilities & Tasks:
• Performs design and desktop publishing tasks, including job orders and revisions, adhering to specifications and deadlines.
• Communicates effectively with project coordinators/managers regarding project questions.
• Provides proofs and ensures timely proof delivery.
• Creates designs that meet department standards.
• Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
• Organizes and archives files for easy retrieval.
• Meets all position requirements and performs essential functions.
• Assists in tagging and organizing the image library.
• Produces pre-press and/or digital/web graphics and text.
• Prepares files for output to various media (film, plate, spot and 4-color process, digital press).
• Receives, manipulates, and maintains files electronically.
• Prepares files and creative for digital media (web, social media).
• Sends files to digital printing presses and copiers.
• Experience in comping and book pagination.
• Works independently without constant supervision.
• Collaborates with peers, offering creative insight and developing new methods.
• Requires minimal art direction from the director.
• Assists inside and outside sales staff in promoting services.
Qualifications:
• Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of 5 years of education/experience in graphic design and advertising.
• Skills and Abilities:
• Experience creating motion graphic typography or vector animations using Adobe After Effects or similar software.
• Comprehensive understanding and experience with Macintosh or PC and software applications such as InDesign, Acrobat, Illustrator, PowerPoint, and Photoshop.
• Knowledge of PDF and PostScript files and PDF plug-ins.
• General knowledge of utility programs (file compression, disk repair, print spoolers, PC to Mac and Mac to PC conversion).
• Ability to prepare files for various output methods.
• Ability to receive and manipulate files electronically.
• Ability to prepare files and creative for digital media.
• Ability to send files to digital printing press and copiers.
• Experience in comping and book pagination.
• Ability to work independently without constant supervision.
