Job Description: Machine Learning Intern (Fall 2025)
As a machine learning intern in Pinterest’s Advanced Technology Group, you’ll experience the full cycle of ML product development. The team focuses on cutting-edge technologies for visual understanding and recommendation systems. Your responsibilities will include:
• Developing and launching new user features: This involves utilizing unique internal datasets and ML techniques, particularly in recommendation systems, computer vision, representation learning, generative AI, and responsible AI.
• Gaining hands-on experience with production ML systems: You’ll work across the entire stack, from algorithmic research and infrastructure to data engineering, training, inference, and product delivery.
• Contributing to cutting-edge research: Your work will contribute to machine learning and artificial intelligence research applicable to Pinterest’s challenges. This could lead to publications.
• Writing clean, efficient, and sustainable code.
• Taking ownership: You will proactively manage tasks and projects with minimal guidance.
Qualifications:
This internship is available on either the Visual Search or Applied Science teams. Ideal candidates possess experience in:
• Computer Vision
• Visual Search
• User Understanding
• Recommendation Systems
• Reinforcement Learning
• ML efficiency optimization
• Generative AI
• LLMs (Large Language Models)
Requirements:
• Ability to work full-time from September to December 2025.
• Pursuing a PhD or Master’s degree in Computer Science, ML, NLP, Statistics, Information Sciences, or a related field.
• Mastery of at least one systems language (Java, C++, Python) and one ML framework (TensorFlow, PyTorch, MLFlow).
• Proven research and analytical problem-solving skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities, with a capacity to handle open-ended problems.
• Publications in machine learning, AI, data science, or related technical fields (preferred).
• Passion for research and applied ML, specifically as it relates to the Pinterest product.
Additional Notes:
• The internship may require in-person collaboration near a Pinterest office (San Francisco, Palo Alto, Seattle, or New York).
• Relocation assistance is not provided.
• The salary range is $10,000-$11,000 per month.
