Job Description: Summer Intern – a16z Perennial Legal and Compliance:
a16z Perennial is seeking a summer intern to support its Legal and Compliance team. This role involves a wide range of responsibilities centered around private fund investments and regulatory compliance. The intern will assist with:
• Deal Review and Closing: Reviewing legal documents (limited partnership agreements, private placement memoranda, shareholders’ agreements, financing documents) for fund and direct investments; assisting with subscription document completion and review.
• Deal Tracking and Monitoring: Creating and maintaining comprehensive systems for tracking deals, monitoring key terms, and managing compliance with global securities laws. This includes building trackers for fund LP subscription responses, deliverables to banks/ISDA counterparties, and compliance filings.
• Regulatory Research: Researching and tracking the global regulatory framework applicable to a16z Perennial’s operations.
• Compliance Management: Managing the compliance calendar and tracking filing obligations.
Qualifications:
• Completion of at least one year of law school.
• Strong understanding of corporate structures and U.S. securities laws.
• Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail, and fast learning abilities.
• Strong analytical and communication skills.
• Ability to work effectively under pressure and meet dynamic deadlines.
• Team player capable of cross-functional collaboration.
• Enthusiasm for learning about private fund investing and related legal/regulatory frameworks.
Success Metrics:
• Understanding the fund investment process from NDA to closing.
• Streamlining the deal closing process for legal and operations teams.
• Becoming an integral part of the legal, compliance, and operations teams.
• Gaining expertise in the investment advisory business and the interplay between legal, compliance, fundraising, and investing functions.
• Implementing systems to improve ongoing compliance.
Compensation: The anticipated hourly rate is $70.00, but may vary.
