Job Description: Full Time Built Ecology Intern – Summer 2025

WSP’s Built Ecology team, a national Built Environment Sustainability team, is seeking a full-time intern for Summer 2025. The internship is part of WSP’s 12-week summer program, starting May 19th, 2025 (with potential flexibility). Locations include Seattle, WA (preferred), Boston, Chicago, Denver, and New York City. No relocation assistance is provided.

Responsibilities:

The intern will support a variety of engineering tasks, developing technical, social, and ethical skills. Specific duties include:

• Learning basic Built Ecology principles.
• Assisting with project research, fieldwork, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
• Supporting the preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
• Assisting in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
• Managing various tasks under the supervision of project managers.
• Supporting sustainability strategy development and certification efforts (LEED, WELL, Fitwel, NZE).
• Assisting with renewable energy analysis and carbon-neutral building assessments.
• Developing strategic and technical recommendations for projects.
• Facilitating stakeholder conversations to devise sustainability strategies.
• Producing high-quality presentations and deliverables.
• Applying existing technical skills and developing new ones in a professional setting.
• Gaining experience in analysis methods, reporting, and presentations related to sustainability.
• Learning computational design and advanced building analytics tools.
• Completing assigned training.
• Adhering to WSP’s Code of Conduct and policies.
• Performing additional responsibilities as needed.

Required Qualifications:

• Active enrollment in an accredited Green Building Design, Engineering, Sustainability Management, Built Ecology, or related Undergraduate, Master’s, or PhD program, with an anticipated graduation date of August 2025.
• Must be 18 years or older.
• Demonstrated interest in green building and a desire to advance relevant skills.
• Ability to present ideas professionally to clients and executives.
• Proficient self-leadership, attention to detail, multitasking, and prioritization skills.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Advanced proficiency with MS Office Suite and other technical tools.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Pursuing a degree in a relevant field.
• Basic proficiency with technical writing and software.
• Proven commitment to workplace safety and adherence to WSP’s policies.
• Authorization to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite.
• 3D modeling skills.
• Scripting and coding experience (Python, Grasshopper).
• Knowledge of the building design and construction process.
• Familiarity with green building rating systems (LEED, Passive House, LBC, WELL, Fitwel).
• Experience with energy, carbon, daylight, and CFD modeling software.
• Extensive Excel and data analysis experience.

Compensation:

Expected salary range: $19.13 – $30.00 (varies by location). This is the Colorado-based range; other locations may vary.
