Job Description: Gensler Summer Fellowship

This is a full-time, paid summer internship (June 3 – August 1, 2025) offering unparalleled learning and networking opportunities. The fellowship focuses on research and thought leadership, contributing to Gensler’s mission of redefining the future of cities. Fellows will work on real projects and research initiatives, collaborating with peers to address key challenges and develop innovative solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Contribute to Gensler’s research initiatives focused on the future of cities.
• Collaborate with a team on real-world projects.
• Develop innovative solutions to address urban design challenges.
• Engage in research methodologies and processes. This includes, but is not limited to: user research, design strategy, and space programming.

Qualifications:

Educational Background: Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria:
• Be entering their final year (Fall 2025) of an undergraduate program in a relevant design field.
• Be enrolled in a graduate degree program in a relevant design field.
• Be a recent graduate (Dec 2024/Spring 2025) of a relevant design program. An accredited degree (NAAB, CIDA, where applicable) is preferred.
Relevant Design Experience: A professional or educational background in the design of the built environment (architecture, interior design, urban design, etc.) is required.
Research Interest: A demonstrable interest in research is essential.
Portfolio: Submission of an online portfolio showcasing design process and innovative solutions (PDF format) is mandatory.
Skills:
• Strong academic background.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Strong graphic and persuasive writing skills.
• Familiarity with research methodologies and processes.
• Interest in user research, design strategy, and space programming.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook) and Adobe Creative Suite.
• Basic skills in AutoCAD and/or Revit.
• Basic skills in 3D and multimedia technologies (a plus).
• Hand sketching ability (a plus).
Availability: Must be available for the entire duration of the program (June 3 – August 1, 2025).

Compensation: $23-$27.50 per hour based on location and year completed in educational program.

Application Process: A two-part application process is required. Part I involves submitting an online application through Gensler’s careers site, including a resume and portfolio. Part II involves submitting a curated portfolio (3-4 work samples, PDF, 10MB max) and completing a couple of essay questions. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis.
