Job Description: Construction Intern

This internship provides hands-on experience in road construction for students pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Construction Management. Interns will gain a realistic understanding of the industry through diverse responsibilities.

Key Duties:

Project Management Support: Assisting the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, file management (including submittals, RFIs, and change orders), and progress reporting.
Field Work: Collaborating with field supervisors on project layout, setting control lines, surveying, construction drawing and trade coordination, verifying field conditions, and quality control.

Qualifications:

Education: Enrolled in a college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
Skills: Proficient PC skills, including proficiency in software such as Excel, Primavera, and SAP. Familiarity with construction industry practices is preferred. Strong communication skills are essential for effective interaction with supervisors and colleagues.
Physical Demands: The role requires both sitting and standing for extended periods (at least eight hours daily), along with frequent stooping, bending, walking, crouching, and climbing. The ability to lift and carry 50-90 pounds frequently is necessary. The job demands continuous mental focus and involves exposure to dust, dirt, grease, noise, and heights (up to 60 feet), requiring the use of ladders, scaffolds, and stair towers. Working on uneven terrain in various weather conditions is also expected. Flexibility in scheduling is required based on project needs.
Work Environment: Primarily outdoors in all weather conditions, with exposure to high noise levels, grease, dust, heavy equipment, and moving machinery. Exposure to various substances common on construction sites (form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready-mix concrete) is also expected.
