Job Description: Construction Intern – Charlotte
This internship offers construction management students practical field experience in road construction. Interns gain hands-on experience across various aspects of the job.
Key Duties:
• Project Management Support: Assisting the project management team with subcontractor and supplier coordination, material tracking, file management (including submittals, RFIs, and change orders), and progress reporting.
• Field Work: Collaborating with field supervisors on project layout, setting control lines, surveying, construction drawing and trade coordination, verifying field conditions, and quality control.
Qualifications:
• Education: Currently enrolled in a college or university pursuing a Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Civil Engineering Technology, or Construction Management.
• Technical Skills: Proficient in PC skills, including software such as Excel, Primavera, and SAP. Familiarity with construction industry practices is preferred, as is prior internship experience.
• Communication: Ability to effectively communicate with job site supervisors and coworkers.
• Physical Demands: Ability to regularly sit and/or stand for at least eight hours; occasionally stoop, bend, walk, crouch, and climb; frequently lift and carry 50-90 pounds; maintain continuous mental focus; tolerate exposure to dust, dirt, grease, and noise; work at heights up to 60 feet using ladders, scaffolds, and stair towers; walk on uneven surfaces in varying weather conditions; and work a flexible schedule based on project needs.
Work Environment:
The job involves outdoor work in all weather conditions, exposure to high noise levels, grease, and dust, proximity to heavy equipment and moving machinery, and contact with various construction site substances (form oil, grease, curing compounds, gasoline, diesel fuel, and ready-mix concrete).
