About the Company:

The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) is responsible for building and maintaining Ohio’s extensive transportation network, including the nation’s 5th largest interstate system and the 3rd largest number of bridges. They prioritize safe and efficient roadways. ODOT employs individuals across various departments, including Planning, Engineering, Construction, Law, HR, Communications, and IT. Job Description:

This is a paid, part-time internship working 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM. The intern will assist the Public Information Officer or designated staff, working under supervision and training. Responsibilities include:

Graphic Design & Visual Communications: Utilizing computer software to create design elements for internal and external websites, and the monthly newsletter.
Communications & Content Creation: Gathering information on road closures, lane restrictions, detours, new highway construction projects, and special events to write and distribute press releases, develop informational brochures and fact sheets, and update the District website. Writing articles and taking photos of District employees for the newsletter.
Photography: Operating a digital camera to take pictures at various events (public meetings, construction season kick-off, district Roadeo, etc.), employee photos for the newsletter, and other Department activities.
Travel: Operating a state vehicle to travel to construction projects, special events, county garages, and other related sites within the District.
Administrative Duties: Performing miscellaneous duties such as answering phones, taking messages, providing information about ODOT activities and programs, and developing presentations using software like Microsoft PowerPoint.

The internship is temporary, designed to supplement the student’s major field of study or provide valuable experience for future professional employment. The position offers the opportunity to learn from experienced professionals, develop new skills, and gain meaningful preparation for future employment. Flexible hours are possible to accommodate the student’s school schedule. Applicants must be in good academic standing and provide proof of enrollment and GPA.
